Trump deletes racist video depicting Obamas as monkeys after bipartisan backlash
Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) called it "the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House."
Speaking to reporters Friday evening, Trump said he sent the video to a staffer to review for posting to his account, but that he only "looked at the first part" of the video and didn't see the post's racist image.
"I looked at the first part, and it was really about voter fraud," Trump told reporters on Air Force One. "Then I gave it to the people to -- generally they look at the whole thing, but I guess somebody didn't and they posted it. And we took it down."
Trump added that he spoke to Scott on Friday, but said he doesn't feel the need to apologize because “I didn't make a mistake."
In response to the video posted Thursday on Trump's Truth Social media platform depicting the Obamas as monkeys, press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Politico:
"This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from the Lion King. Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public."
The Obama Meme on Trump's Truth Social Was Exactly What It Looked Like.
The White House took 12 hours to remove it.
What else is there to say? Our President stands on the world stage making a complete ass of himself, and all of us in process.
I will respond to press secretary Karoline Leavitt directly:
Contrary to popular belief, I don't ride around on the back end of a turnip wagon.
